Red Tent Temple at Postal code 95035, United States
Nov 15, 2009 (Sunday)
3:00PM
We will hold a red tent temple every month as close to the full moon as possible. (The Red Tent is a novel by Anita Diamant, published in 1997 by St. Martin's Press. It is a first-person narrative which tells the story of Dinah, daughter of Jacob and sister of Joseph, a talented midwife and proto-feminist. The book's title refers to the tent in which women of Jacob's tribe must, according to the ancient law, take refuge while menstruating or giving birth, and in which they find mutual support and encouragement from their mothers, sisters and aunts.) The BABM Red Tent Temple is a safe space for women to rest, journal, spend time in quiet thought with a cup of tea, come to bellydance with and for the women, sing songs, share stories, educate and mentor young mothers, daughters, and sisters, and seek guidance from elder women. ~ Set up will be from 2:30 -3pm. ~ A brief opening/orientation circle will be held at 3pm. ~3:15 - 3:45pm will be time where you can do what you wish in the space. ~ Formal Circle will be held from 3:45 - 4:15pm ~4:15 - 5 pm will be community time (farewells, hugs, networking, resting after circle..) and break down of the space. This meetup is held in the spirit of community and collaboration. It has a strong connection to bellydance and returns the dance back to one sector of its history of a social meeting of women. Volunteers are always needed for a successful meeting.
